Berlin’s first museum for urban contemporary art, Urban Nation, opened its doors in 2017 and houses a collection of artworks from internationally and locally renowned street artists and collectives. Urban Nation is an active member and supporter of Berlin’s street art community and is working to transform Berlin’s urban landscape into a giant, outdoor art gallery—one building facade at a time.
I have led two redesigns and relaunches of the Urban Nation website over the past four years in order to reflect the rapidly evolving nature of the museum, from its beginnings as a street art blog to a fully realised, government-sponsored museum and cultural highlight in Berlin.
The website brings together Urban Nation’s various projects: profiling artists and new artworks, promoting the museum and current exhibitions and events, leading street art walking tours, running artist-led workshops for children, and engaging in social projects to develop and strengthen neighbourhood culture and diversity.
The website is not only a showcase for artists and their artworks from Berlin and further afield, but also employs Urban Nation’s modular corporate identity to unify diverse artistic styles and aesthetics within the museum’s own branding.
